TE3N Hindi movie Review

Even with a very sluggish pace, TE3N manages to grab your attention. The surprising turn of events at some stage along with a retrained, matured and emotional act from Amitabh Bachchan puts this suspense thriller in a safe zone.
Yes, definitely TE3N is a watchable film without doubt but I am not sure whether some of you might be able to compromise with the pace of the film. I said that the film is a suspense thriller. Well, it has good suspense that keeps the audience fully engaged. At the same time, the film is a thriller. But putting it straight across, the flavour of thrill smells totally different from the usual pattern.
The story unfolds in Kolkatta and focus on an old man John Biswas who is a daily visitor to the local police station. John wants to know who is the culprit behind the kidnapping and murder of his grand daughter. Eight years after that unfortunate incident in the life of John, a similar case with the same modus operandi in an identical fashion puts the police on a red alert and on the run.
The writing have some clarity issues. Still I would say the film is watchable and reasonably engaging with some suspense. The plot taking some interesting twists and turns also makes up for an intriguing watch. TE3N is never an underwhelming experience by any means. At the same time, its not a fully convincing film.
Taking time to let loose and gradually building up the story, the film takes time to evolve completely especially the first half. The treatment is not in the conventional mould that we normally see in suspense thrillers, TE3N doesn't disappoint but at the same time, it fails to provide a solid punch until some good and convincing twists to the storyline makes things interesting.
Amitabh Bachchan is the real soul of the film who has put up a different style of acting. The character of John is passing through lot of emotional difficulties and in front of the camera Big B looks perfect in that role with a convincing and terrific act which is one of the major highlight of TE3N. Nawazuddin Siddhiqui is always a reliable and bankable actor but for an actor of his calibre, the role of Martin was a cakewalk offering no challenges.
In the beginning title credits, Vidya Balan's name is mentioned as a guest role. Contradicting this note, we can see her right from the start till the curtains come down. Its a very lengthy and extended guest role. She hasn't done it badly but the way in which her character has been written, it doesn't provide her a chance to come out and perform to her complete abilities. Camera work is too good with neat cuts. Background score is scintillating enough matching the overall mood of the film.
Directed by Ribhu Dasguptha and produced by Sujoy Ghosh, the film is watchable but suffer mainly on the writing and making side. I am not fully convinced but nevertheless TE3N was an engaging experience for me and going with three out of five as my personal score for this movie.
Rating - 3 / 5
